How does it work ?

Pets and People specialises in introducing dog owners to specially selected carers in and around the Heart of England. Our carers provide overnight accommodation in their home or just day care. (We don't offer pet sitting in your home.) You therefore, have complete peace of mind, knowing your pet is being looked after in a loving home whilst you are away.

Firstly, we register your dog so we can get to know your wishes thoroughly. Then we select a suitable Carer for you. We then ask you to visit that Carer for an introductory meeting and you take your dog with you to meet your prospective Carer.

Only after that meeting , if everyone is happy with the arrangements, the booking is confirmed!

In exceptional circumstances we can arrange bookings without an introductory meeting where both parties are happy to proceed but this is not our preferred way of working.

Once you have used our service and established a relationship with one carer, we will endeavour to arrange future bookings with the same person.

Carers

Our Carers are all former/current pet owners and pet lovers with years of experience. They are thoroughly vetted by us to ensure that they can provide the level of care expected of a Pets and People Carer.

Although we focus our services on dogs some of our Carers are willing to look after other pets.

Owners' obligations

Pets and People will ask you to confirm that your dog:

  • Has up to date injections
  • Has up-to-date worming and parasite programmes
  • Is fully housetrained
  • Has no record of aggressive or anti-social behaviour
  • Has no current health problems that would prevent care being provided

We also prefer dogs to be microchipped and insured. We can accept a pet without insurance but would ask you to sign a disclaimer accepting responsibility for the points which pet insurance would cover. We would also ask you to accept responsibility if there was any damage caused to the Carer's home and to undertake to meet any veterinary costs that may arise during a period of care.

Our carers are covered by our third party liability insurance, when they have a dog in their care.

In addition we like you to provide essential care items such as food, bowls, collar and lead, poo bags, a towel, bedding and toys for your dog's stay with a Carer. This way your dog will feel it is surrounded by familiarity and is likely to settle quicker!

Carers will normally be ready to receive dogs from around 8:00 am (although this can sometimes be earlier with the carer's agreement) and the latest time for collection is normally 8:00 pm (although again this can sometimes be slightly later with the carer's agreement).

Cost

There is an annual registration fee of £20 + VAT. We ask for this at the time we register your dog and covers all the initial administration, matching you with a carer and arranging the meeting.

In addition, we have a daily rate. This will depend on your dog, it's size and care requirements but is likely to be between £14 and £18 per day + VAT. When we know your requirements we will quote you a firm cost per day.

Payment Terms

50% of the fee is payable with the booking, with the balance falling due six weeks in advance of the booking commencement date. Where a booking is accepted at shorter notice, full payment is normally taken immediately in order to secure the booking. Payment must be made prior to the booking commencing.
Also, late Owner payments ie. not in accordance with our payment terms above, will be charged a late payment fee of £10.

Cancellation Terms

In the event of cancellation after a booking has been confirmed, our normal cancellation terms are as follows:

Period of Notice of Cancellation

more than 6 weeks before care commences - 25% of booking fee
6 weeks to 2 weeks before care commences - 50% of booking fee
less than 2 weeks before care commences - 100% of booking fee

Once a booking has been confirmed, a £15.00 (plus VAT) administration fee may be charged should any subsequent changes be requested.
